• Piano and vocals

Laura’s background is in composition, with a Bachelor of Music from the Sydney Conservatorium. She has written for multi award winning ensembles Mara! and the Martenitsa Choir, for ARIA nominated ensemble Chaika. Her cinematic sounds are influenced by the work she has done in the music departments of nearly 40 films, with credits such as Moulin Rouge, Babe and Australia. She is also passionate about the environment and combating climate change, and is an active member of her local Greens party.

  • Violin, Guitar, Vocals

With a background in opera, Susie moonlights in many different musical arenas, from singing the role of Angela, a murderous spinster in the Australian opera “Love Burns”, to playing Irish fiddle at the local pub, to jazz baroque fusion with Elysian Fields. Other ensembles include Marais Project, Chaika, Miriam Lieberman Trio and Ensemble Offspring. She also has a passion for human rights and is an active member of the Sutherland Shire Refugee Connection.

  • Double Bass, Vocals

Coming from a background in jazz and audio visuals, Johan’s main work is in event production. A proud Swede (not the vegetable), he met Susie in the UK whilst studying music at Sheffield University. Since moving to Australia he has performed with ARIA nominated ensemble Chaika, Tangalo, Portable Junk, and Dave Calandra and the Min Min Lights.

Intricate guitar and rich sonic piano-scapes form the basis of this originally sister duo's original music. Their Americana and Celtic roots are a subtle aftertaste in their thoughtful explorations of love, loss and the human connection. Laura’s “spine-tingling” compositions combine with Susie’s “beautiful sound full of storytelling” and results in their truly unique sound. With the addition of double bassist Johan Delin the trio now call themselves Meremba.
